Included with each section or problem is reference examples and end of section exercises that  can be used as a guide Section 1.1: Identify the sample and population (References: example 1 page 5, end of section exercises 21 – 28 page 9) Each situation in 1a and 1b will have a sample AND population. 1. a. A newspaper publisher mails out a survey 6 months before a subscription expires. This  survey asks its subscribers if they are going to renew. On average, 8% of the subscribers  respond to the survey. Of the 8% who respond, an average of 53% say they will renew. i. Sample (2.5 points) The sample is the responses of the 8% of the subscribers that responded to the survey. ii. Population (2.5 points)  The population is all the subscribers to the newspaper. b. An employee at a fish camp asks 5 customers if they liked baked flounder. i. Sample (2.5 points)
