Chapter 1 Page 1 of 2 What do you consider to be Science? ( Astrology vs. Astronomy) Astronomy IS a science, Astrology IS NOT a science Why? What is Science? Science: A body of knowledge concerning the natural world and it’s phenomenon. It- Science- involves events that can be traced to natural causes that are potentially within our ability to comprehend. SCIENCE DOESN’T & CAN’T EXAMINE SUPERNATURAL PHENOMNA!!! Astrology, religion/ faith based assertions other disciplines are responsible for these. The Principles of Science are: Limited to the explanation of physical/ natural phenomena. ( N. Causality) Assume fundamental processes are uniform across time and space. Science is purely objective NO morals, ethics, values, etc. Science is done by scientists (ie, people) which introduces non- objectivity, even though it ( science) is objective. So, How do Scientists who aren’t objective meet the 3 principles?
