The information listed here is a minimal guideline. Do not reuse any portion of a previously submitted lab report in this lab report. Doing so could result in a loss of points for the reused portion. Summary Write one or two paragraphs in which you address ± What it is you set out to accomplish . You can state it as hypothesis or as goals. It should be inclusive of all the labs that the report covers. ± What is the expected outcome? You can also state this as, "what specific claims can you make about the experiments that you did, "what did you expect to happen" or "what specific results did you expect to get?" Introduction Write one or two paragraphs in which you address ± Background information that aids the reader in understanding the experiments and their significance. Results ± You should place all your data in the results section. Write a descriptive narrative of the data that is meaningful. Do not quote all your numbers or list all your observations or facts. You can compare facts or data as well as present trends in your data. Represent your data in charts, pictures, graphs, or other visual format if it aids the reader in reviewing the data, or if it simplifies the data. Provide your figures with an appropriate legend that assist the reader in interpreting the data. See “A Short Guide” for sample figures and legends. Make reference to your figures in the narrative. Your figures should be able to stand- alone apart from the written text. You should not talk about what was expected or draw conclusions about your data in the results section. Leave that for the discussion. ± Tables and results: 1. Describe the source of the six colonies on your Master Plate and Table C1.1 and Table C1.2 2. Table C1.5 - Expected amplicon sizes 3. C2 gel picture of PCR products (don’t forget to label the lanes and use JPG in your report.) Explain the results. If you are using the successful gel picture from another group, don’t forget to acknowledge the other group. 4.
