C OLLINS , III N EUROBIOLOGY & B EHAVIOR C OLLEGE OF A RTS AND S CIENCES S TONY B ROOK U NIVERSITY S PRING 2010 BIO 203 Syllabus Spring 2010 Page 2 COURSE DESCRIPTION BIO 203-E Fundamentals of Biology: Cellular and Organ Physiology The fundamentals of cell and organ physiology in mammalian and non-mammalian organisms are introduced. The structure and function of cell membranes, the physiology of cell to cell signaling, cellular respiration and homeostasis of organs and organisms are examined with an emphasis on the comparative physiology of vertebrates and invertebrates. Principles of Animal Physiology (Christopher D. Moyes and Patricia M. Student Response Pad: Each student must purchase a Student Response Pad (eInstruction model CPS RF ) and bring the pad to lecture . Student response pads will be used in Prof. Collins lectures. Units are available for purchase from the University Bookstore (inquire at the register). It is best to purchase a second generation response pad (white with an LCD display) since these units are easier to use and provide better feedback to the student. After acquiring a CPS RF student response pad, you must register the unit with eInstruction and enroll the response pad in BIO 203.
