Anthony Bonanni Bonanni 1 Professor Schild English 0802 05 October 2010 Argument of the Cause of Oppression Oppression has happened numerous times throughout history, and there is a big debate on why it is able to even happen. There are many viewpoints on this issue, that all claim to be the real motivation for oppression. One of the main ones stating that people oppress because they are power hungry, and that it is only possible with the help of other big forces. These forces can include governments, militaries, political parties, religions, and many other big groups. It is aid that these big groups are necessary to cause oppression and segregation among people because these big groups are necessary for the power of being able to oppress many people. Susanne Kappeler is a supporter of this view, saying that oppression is really all about power, and not about dehumanizing the oppressed. She says that “The aim is not to dismantle power, the aim is victory over the enemy, that is, gathering enough power on one’s side to overpower the other
