Ashley Williams RELI 1001 Honercamp 27 September 2010 Extra Credit: The Standing Miracle The Muslims have a great deal of respect and admiration for Muhammad. He was a man with many great attributes such as being a soldier, lawmaker, husband, father, and shepherd. A benediction in reverence of him can be found in the Muslims’ holy book, the Koran. The Arabic word al-qur’an means a recitation. Hence, the Koran is one of the most recited, or read, books in the entire world. Muhammad referred to this book as God’s “standing miracle”. He calls it a miracle because at the time in which he wrote the book, he was barely able to write his own name. But somehow, he was able to write a perfect book, the Koran. This, according to Muslims, was a miracle. The Koran is about four-fifths the length of the New Testament and has 114 chapters or surahs , each written with decreasing length. The book also has two distinct sectors: the created Koran and the Uncreated Koran. The Uncreated Koran is present within the letters and sounds of
