Meserat Zemui AESC 4920 April 4, 2010 Journal 9 I believe that teaching is a profession. It requires education, certification, and experience. In order to become a teacher you must first attain a degree at an accredited college or university. Along with attaining a teaching degree is gaining valuable experience in the classroom as a student teacher. Education is becoming specific in training teachers for the level of schooling they are interested in teaching. This experience is vital for teachers to learn tactics and procedures for the classroom. Teachers are also required to gain certification in order to teach in a classroom. In comparison to professions such as law and medicine, teachers undergo years of education, hands on experience, and certification much like those professions.

Unformatted text preview: Having some experience in a classroom with both a teacher and a student teacher has also helped me come to the conclusion that teaching is a profession. The student teacher is working first hand with the students and a certified teacher to gain much needed classroom experience. The student teacher does the same work as a certified teacher. The teacher is providing a service by teaching those children in a professional manner much like the services of lawyers and doctors. Also as a teacher, I have learned that teaching requires a lot of hard work, education, and experience which are many of the qualities that comprise a profession. So I have come to the conclusion that teaching although an overlooked profession is a profession nonetheless....
