Problem 2) An Early Warning (EW) radar system consists of an airborne radar and an over-the- horizon (OTH) radar. The “false detection” probability of each radar increases with the distance from the enemy aircraft. The following chart shows the false detection probability density function (PDF) of the airborne radar (solid line) and the OTH radar (dotted line) with respect to the distance. a) Determine and then plot the false detection CDF for both radars in one chart and briefly compare the performance of the two radars in terms of reliability of the radars in close and far ranges. b) Calculate the false detection mean value of each radar. c) Calculate the probability of the false detection of each radar in the range [200 - 400 km]. d) What is the probability of false detection for the same range if both radars alarm at the same time.
