1) Introduction Momentum is used to help analyze the impact of jet water as it strikes a cup. This will be calculated using the theoretical flow momentum of the jet which helps us in finding other properties such as the water speed, jet momentum and force caused due to the impact. The purpose of this lab is to prove that jet momentum and force generated due the impact has a linear relationship between them and that’s because the force generated depends on the same factors that momentum depends on, and therefore they are linear. 2) Procedure First of all, the hydraulic bench supply line was connected to the inlet pipe of the jet impact apparatus while keeping the flat plate at 90 o . The apparatus was leveled by bringing the lever to the balanced position and adjusting the spring tension. Also, the jockey weight was held at its zero position and the water was off as well. Then, the supply valve to the apparatus was turned off and the hydraulic bench was turned on while opening the drain valve from the measuring tank to the sump at the same time. As a completion of the previous step, the supply valve to the apparatus was opened slowly in order to get the desired flow rate.
