Lecture notes 2-28-11: Pharmacology The study of drugs, origin, properties and their effects on living organisms Drugs A substance used for medicinal purposes which may alter return or modify normal body functions Uses Therapeutic: treatment of disease Diagnostic: aids in location or diagnosis of disease Eliminate/Cure: removes or kills substance causing disease Replacement: replace a chemical substance normally in the body Prophylactic: prevent or decrease the severity of a disease or condition
