Why do companies issue bonds? Would you rather buy a bond at a discount or a premium rate? Explain why. What is the determining factor of whether a bond is sold at a discount, face, or premium? Companies issue bonds so they can finance there company. I would rather buy a bond at a discount rate because you don’t have to pay as much up front to the company. The determining factor of whether a bond is sold at a discount, face, or premium depends on the actual rate that the bonds are going for at that specific time. I am sure that companies are always trying to find the perfect opportunity to sell bonds for an expensive price and people who are looking to buy
