- Mitosis : result is a cell that has the exact same genetic material as the parent cell; chromosome used to describe the genetic material in the cell, and only present in the cell when the cell is dividing -In a non-dividing cell, there is chromatin , which is a way of organizing the DNA into a stable form so the genetic traits stored can be used by the cell; genetic material will condense from chromatin to transportable packages --> this process doesn't occur until mitosis is actually happening - S Phase : entire DNA is duplicated, chromosomes not being duplicated; each of the maternal/paternal copies duplicated --> 4N2n (lower case n is how many sources of DNA we have and N is the number of copies) -In the non-dividing cell, there are 2 copies of the genetic material and it goes to 4 copies of the genome, 2 sources still - Stages of Mitosis : Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase, Telophase 1) Prophase : genetic material housed in the nucleus; chromatin condenses to form chromosomes, so now the genetic material in the nucleus is condensed; genetic
