ENGL 102: Intermediate College Writing Instructor: Sutton Adams Research Project Overview For the final assignment, you will choose a topic for research and will write an 8-10 page essay on that topic. Your essay should center around an original argumentative thesis statement that your paper should attempt to prove or make a case for. Choosing a topic You are welcome to stick to the topic you wrote on for the previous assignment, and you may use the sources you analyzed for that assignment as long as they are relevant to and useful for an academic research paper . However, I expect almost all written material to be original; in other words, you may not recycle whole paragraphs or pages from Paper 3 (and I don’t really expect that doing so would be useful to you or even possible, anyway). Topic Proposal and Bibliography In order to prepare for writing your long research paper, you will prepare a brief topic proposal and a bibliography of at least 8 sources pertinent to your research topic prior to turning in your first draft of the paper. Topic Proposal Your topic proposal should be 1-2 pages in length and should answer the following questions: What topic will your paper examine? What do you plan to argue about your chosen topic?
