Project #5: Researched Essay Research is a process of asking questions and seeking answers to those questions. To do effective research, you have to think carefully about what you’re trying to discover and what kinds of questions will help you find answers. Moreover, as you work through the research process and your project evolves, you often need to reevaluate your question(s) and ask new ones, based on the information you find. In this course, we have also talked about research as a conversation, a way of engaging with other voices and ideas. This is perhaps the most difficult aspect of research-based writing: contributing your own perspective to a topic, while, at the same time, taking into account what others have already contributed. This writing project, then, will give you the opportunity to work through some of the key challenges of research-based writing. For this project, you will develop a specific question about an issue raised in one of our readings which you personally want to know more about, explore that question through research, and then write an extended argumentative essay in which you
