Kennie Rose English 101 Spring 2010 Essay #1 ASSIGNMENT To complete this assignment, you must come to terms with the Edward White selection, “Helping Students Do Well on Writing Assignments,” a chapter from handbook for teachers about responding to student essays. Coming to terms describes a method for reading academic texts. When you are utilizing this reading strategy, you are not primarily focused on whether you agree or disagree with the writer’s positions. Instead, you concentrate on what you can do with the text. In other words, you want to ask the following questions: if you were to start your own project on this subject, which of White’s ideas would be useful? What would be limiting?
