Quality Systems and Methodologies We are going to look at the Taguchi Quality System, but we have already touched on other types of Quality Systems–different types of Quality systems exist depending on the where the organization focuses their improvement efforts Six Sigma and Lean principles (ex. elimination of waste, reduction of variability) persist throughout these alternative quality systems and often the specific tools and techniques employed are similar, but more finely tuned for a particular set of circustances

Taguchi Methods–Quality Loss Function Quality Loss function: summarizes the relationship between variation and a product’s functional performance provides a numerical evaluation of product quality and allows one to determine the costs associated with variability The concept of quantifying quality loss is at the heart of the Taguchi philosophy
