ISyE 2028C HW#4 (ISyE 2028 Past Exam #3 Grading Remarks) Problem #1: (a) This problem asked for a confidence interval for σ 1 2 / σ 2 2 . The calculation results show that σ 1 2 = σ 2 2 is not rejected. (b) Use the pooled-t test to check H 0 : μ 1 – μ 2 = 0 for the Monday exam and H 0 * : μ 1 – μ 2 = 1 for the Tuesday exam. The numerator of the T-statistic is ( y A _bar – y B _bar) for H 0 and ( y A _bar – y B _bar) – 1 for H 0 * . Remark: Some students used F-test or even chi-square test to check whether the two variances are equal. Some students used confidence interval to test the means. Problem #2: This is a One-way ANOVA with One Blocking Variable (“oven”). Note that the problem asked to evaluate the impact of different temperature on the performance of electronic products (or the impact of different amount of dye on color densities). The one-way treatment effect is temperature (or amount of dye). Moreover, since the three ovens were selected from 15 ovens (or two plants were selected from 10 plants), the blocking variable is a random effect .

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
