Chapter 2 1. If we want to obtain the maximum possible good for humankind all possible pros and cons need to be accounted for. That is why it is important to take into account both the benefits and the costs of new technology. If we were to only take in the benefits of new technology we would be neglecting all the cons and repercussions that could take place. Just because the benefits are high and could be reaped by many does not mean that they outweigh the potential cost. If we were to only focus on the costs of new technology, rather than the benefits, than the possible benefits received by humankind cannot be reached. Improper spending on technology could lead to an outcome where the costs do not match the benefits. It is important to focus on both the benefits and the costs of new technology because in order to obtain the maximum possible good for humankind all scenarios need to be accounted for, and both the benefits and costs work hand in hand. 2.I believe that the government intervening in the introduction of all the new technology advances would not be a good idea and that they would do an inferior job compared to the private-sector inventors of those technologies. The government has a job, as do the inventors of new technology, and it is important for the government to not step over the inventors. The technology that is being created is symbolic of change and technological advancement, if the government were to step in and decide what was allowed to be created they would essentially be holding the country back by not letting potential advancement be met. The argument that the government could do a better job and should be in charge of what technology is invented has some potential benefits in the area of safety. If the government were to regulate the technology that was at the hands of the people they could somewhat control new advancements getting into the hands of the
