Is Egil a Hero? Hero: Later, hero (male) and heroine (female) came to refer to characters who, in the face of danger and adversity or from a position of weakness, display courage and the will for self sacrifice —that is, heroism—for some greater good of all humanity. Dictionary.com: a man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his  brave deeds and noble qualities. Some events: 1. Ball game (p94) Egil got mad because he was losing Struck Grim, Grim fought back, Egil lost Drove an axe through Grim’s brain 2. Ball game (later) (p 95) Skallagrim killed his slave-woman, who had fostered Egil Egil kills a man who was in charge of the farm hands, a man Skallagrim particularly liked. (P95) Revenge 3. Thorolf’s ship (p96) Thorolf says that if Egil’s father doesn’t think he can control Egil in his own home, there’s nothing much he can do overseas. Thorolf declines Egil cut the anchor ropes, and let the ship drift out (p96)
