I. Introduction A. The theory of evolution has been attacked since 1859 when Charles Darwin published his book. B. In 1861 Darwin wrote a letter to his colleague who was in a meeting where they debated Darwin’s book, one of the scientists argued that it was too theoretical and that he should of “put his facts before us and let them rest.” C. Darwin argued that data without generalizations are useless; facts without explanatory principles are meaningless. D. A theory is a well-supported and well-tested generalization that explains a set of observations. E. Darwin’s finding made a giant fight between religion and science. I I. Prediction and Observation A. Darwin valued above all else prediction and verification by subsequent observation, he made a theory of coral reef without even seeing one before. B. Theoretical prediction was followed by observation verification; the theory came first, then the data. C. Darwin insisted that theory comes to and from the facts, not from political or philosophical beliefs....
