Marc Bachan Lab Partner: Jack Ryder Lab 1: Introduction The main objective of this lab is to analyze the random motion and probability of marbles falling into different positions at the bottom of an inclined board of nails. The experimenters theorized beforehand that the most frequent positions will occur towards the middle of the board, with decreasing frequency towards the sides of the board. Conclusion In the analysis of the data, the Gaussian distribution was used to describe the probability of what the marble’s position will be after rolling down the board of nails. It was found that trend sufficiently describes that probability, based on numerous trials. As can be observed from the chart comparing the Gaussian trend to the percent frequency of each position, the area of highest probability yield lies in the middle. The trend is not an exact match, but it exhibits the definitive “bell curve” nature of the Gaussian trend that validates the experimenters’ hypothesis. The results of the first fifty marble rolls don’t quite resemble any kind of applicable trend,
