It provides a strong foundation for more advanced statistical courses. The emphasis is on the conceptual understanding of basic ideas, theories and methodologies. We will be using statistical package R to illustrate some of the ideas in this course; the knowledge of R will not be tested. Prerequisite A year of calculus at the level of MATH 162 Also, if you took any one of STAT301, STAT350, STAT 501 or STAT503 in the past, you cannot receive a credit for STAT511. Textbook Probability and Statistics for Engineering and the Sciences, 7 th edition , by J.L. Devore.
