Date of reading: October 24, 2009 Genre: Tragedy Plot: 1. The Layman Family lives in rural Indiana. Buddy lives with his sister Jennie Mae was well has his father Ferris on a farm. A man named C.C. Showers comes into town and begins to work on the Layman’s farm. Showers was previously a preacher but has come to town to escape it all and work on the farm for food and shelter. Buddy seems to have a slight mental illness. Buddy often refers to himself in third person and refuses to shower. Mrs. Layman passed away when Buddy was small when trying to save him. Mrs. Layman drowned and has left Buddy afraid of water. Although he is afraid of water he can sense when it is coming. The people of the town look to Buddy for the weather. Buddy and Showers form a relationship through the play that is built on trust and friendship. Showers even gets Buddy to get into the river.
