Lab Safety Rules For some of these items points are taken off for doing incorrectly and some will pop up on quizzes and tests o So pay attention and take notes if you need to No food or drinks in the labs o Keep them outside or in your backpack o No bottles on the outside of backpacks o No tobacco, ice, or anything that you will put in mouth Disposal o Large red biohazard bags Non glass contaminated material Mostly petri plates NOT GLASS!!!!!!! No regular trash (paper towels, wrappers, ect.) o Small orange biohazard bags Small non glass contaminated material Eppi tubes, pipette tips, swabs No petri plates, lens paper, or trash No microscope slides When full please empty into big red bio bag o Small disinfectant jars Glass slides, pasture pipettes Glass only Make sure material goes into basket o Test tube discard racks Location Please fill racks completely Get more racks from media kitchen For unknown labs, pans will be on sides, go with the flow Spills and broken glass o Never call custodial services to clean it o Clean it yourself o Disinfect with spray bottle o Get broom and dust pan from open lab room or media kitchen o Show where broken glass box is Refilling- students responsibility to do themselves
