Schizophrenia-Effects Inappropriate Affect      “Schizophrenia”= split within mind o      Bleuler: split between thought and emotion o      Affect does not match the mind      Affect not relevant to the situation      Blunted and Flat affect o      Looks like depression, but not depressed. Lack of affect. Other negative symptoms      Loss of volition      Psychomotor retardation o      Move very slowly, tend to shuffle, lack of energy      Poverty of thought and speech o      More blunted, sit there quietly for the most part. Checked out      Social isolation/disconnection o types of Schizophrenia      Paranoid o      Primary symptoms: well organized delusional system      Usually delusions of grandeur and persecution      Ideas of reference o      Often have few negative symptoms o      Compromise most of type I Schizophrenia      Primarily positive symptoms      Most responsive to psychotropic medications      Best prognosis for recovery o      Relatively high level of pre-morbid functioning      Catatonic o      Primary symptoms      Rigid body posture      Stupor (unresponsive)
