Goode Week 8: Alcohol - You should:   Recognize the general criteria for diagnosing Fetal Alcohol Syndrome.      Growth Retardation before and or after birth      Patterns of abnormal features of the face and head      Evidence of Central nervous system abnormality   Recognize the other acute and chronic behavioral and physically toxic effects of  alcohol, e.g. cirrhosis, delirium tremens, cancers, auto accidents, etc.      Acute Behavioral o      At low effective blood levels complex and abstract behaviors  disrupter o      At higher blood levels; simler behaviors also affected. o      Effects are greater when BAC is rising o      Expectations o      Driving Under the Influence o      Peripheral circulation: DIalation of peripheral blood vessels  means that drinker lose body heat but feels warm o      Fluid Balance: Alcohol has a diuretic effect that can lower  blood pressure in some people.      Acute Physical Toxicity o      Alcohol Overdose (poisoning) is common and dangerous. If  someone drink enough to pass out place him or her on side and  monitor breathing, take to the ER. Do not leave ther person
