Week 9: Caffeine(Psychology) - You should:  Know the three xanthines present in coffee, tea and cocoa: caffeine, theophylline  and theobromine.      Caffeine, Mostly widely used psychoactive drug, average American  intake is 200 to 250 mg/day. Some people regularly consume much  more. Can cause dependence and interfere with functioning. Belong to  a class of chemicals known as xanthines.      Theophylline o      Can be used as an asthma medication      Theobromine   Explain the common mechanism of action of the xanthines found in coffee, tea  and cocoa.      Xanthines block inhibitory receptors for adenosine, thereby having a  stimulant effect.   In particular, understand the two ways we dicussed that the xanthines interact  with adenosine systems.   Understand what conditions xanthines have been used to treat.      Pharmacology Effects o      Stimulation, caffine partially offsets the effects of fatigue on  both mental and physical tasks but it may not improve  performance in well-rested individuals o      High Caffeine consumption among college students is
