Hannah Fidati Dr. Kelly Erby History 2110 Documentary Assignment 21 Monday 2011 The Crash of 1929 The year of 1929 was looking promising and optimistic for all of America during the New Era age. The main contributor to the prosperity in America was the stock market. During the 1920’s the stock market had been rising for nearly 8 years, leading way for much success to those who invested in the stocks of the market. Pure joy and optimism permeated every citizen of the United States as nearly anyone could become rich merely by investing in the upward trending market. Such examples would be leading businessmen like William Durant, Charles Mitchell, and Jesse Livermore. These wealthy men derived their grand fortune from investing into the stock market as it was booming. It seemed as if nothing could go wrong as long as the stock kept rising and rising. The infamous song “Blue Skies,” illustrates the optimism that permeated Wall Street, as thousands grew successful from the stock market. Such lyrics from the song were,
