Jaffer 1 001147-146 Feminine superiority and matriarchy were repulsive and unspeakable themes in the late 1800s. However, in Henrik Ibsen’s A Doll House , feministic themes of women’s triumph over men are subtly planted throughout the play. Nora Helmer’s seemingly innocuous actions throughout the play actually (I'd remove the word 'actually', because the two adverbs seem really weird) clandestinely indicate her willingness to break free from Torvald and symbolize ( epitomize is better) feminine power ( independence rather than power) and strength. Nora’s departure at the conclusion of the play is the most extreme display of her feminine dominance, as she leaves Torvald to discover what she wants for herself. However, other symbols of Nora’s superiority, such as her control over Torvald with her captivating tarantella, also reinforce the themes of feminism inherent in the play. Throughout A Doll House , Nora’s actions continuously hint at a new paradigm of the feminine role in a marriage: one that insinuates an independent and powerful, yet nonetheless charming, wife. Nora’s sovereign and autonomous actions throughout A Doll House reinforce her independence from Torvald and symbolize feminine superiority. Nora’s willingness to obtain independence first sprouts from the loan she took from Krogstad to save her husband’s life. She “sign[s] [her] Papa’s name” on the note and justifies it by asserting that “[her] husband’s life [is] in danger” (Ibsen 66). Nora commits this deed without any consultation or advice from Torvald or anyone else, indicating her independence and sovereignty over her actions. She believes that only she can save Torvald from this illness, by borrowing money unlawfully and forging a signature. Furthermore, when Krogstad threatens her years later with the forgery by stating that she was “going to keep [him] company” if he gets “shoved down a second time,” Nora still keeps the incident secret from Torvald and asserts her independence, which indubitably shows her strong feminine sovereignty ( Don't you think “asserts her independence” and “indubitably shows
