Chap 1 - MANAGEMENT AND ORGANIZATIONS  MANAGEMENT:  The process of planning, coordinating, and monitoring the efforts of  others to accomplish performance goals.  When Debbi Fields launched Mrs. Fields  Cookies, she worked alone to bake and sell her cookies. When it became clear that she,  alone, couldn’t keep up with the demand for her delicious baked goods, she had to hire  others to help do the baking. As her enterprise continued to expand, she had to hire  more people to work in each store. She manages all of the people she employs, who  contribute to the production and sales of her baked goods.  ORGANIZATION:  A collection of people working together to achieve a common  purpose.  Hofstra is an organization that provides education, Coca-Cola is an  organization that provides beverages, and Sloan-Kettering is an organization that  provides cancer treatment.
