Chap 1 - MANAGEMENT AND ORGANIZATIONS MANAGEMENT: The process of planning, coordinating, and monitoring the efforts of others to accomplish performance goals. When Debbi Fields launched Mrs. Fields Cookies, she worked alone to bake and sell her cookies. When it became clear that she, alone, couldn’t keep up with the demand for her delicious baked goods, she had to hire others to help do the baking. As her enterprise continued to expand, she had to hire more people to work in each store. She manages all of the people she employs, who contribute to the production and sales of her baked goods. ORGANIZATION: A collection of people working together to achieve a common purpose. Hofstra is an organization that provides education, Coca-Cola is an organization that provides beverages, and Sloan-Kettering is an organization that provides cancer treatment.
