  Chap 6 - STRATEGY  STRATEGY : A comprehensive plan guiding resource allocation to achieve long-term  organizational goals.  KEMA, a global consulting company recognized as the European  leader in energy efficiency, is pursuing the strategy of extending its position globally.  Have identified the U.S. as a key base for efficiency research and development, KEMA  is acquiring U.S. consulting companies that have expertise in the area of energy  efficiency. /As a result of steady declines in readership of print newspapers, newspapers  are changing their strategy from conveying the news via print media to building a  broader platform that includes using the web and other electronic media (e.g., making  the news available via applications for smartphones) to provide the news. /Pepsi-Co is  seeking to purchase the Pepsi Bottling Group and Pepsi-Americas, which it had sold off  in the late 90s. Why the change in strategy? Although separating the bottling and  distribution business (which yields lower profit margins) from the creation and marketing  part of the business confers advantages for shareholders, Pepsi-Co now sells sports  drinks and juices in addition to soda. Combining the bottling and distribution of all its
