Akshay Patel AP Essay 1 Jamestown provided an outlook on how to settle in the New World because settlers learned how to deal with conditions in the New World and build different relationships with the Native Americans. Jamestown was the first permanent colony in the New World. Further European colonization and colonial settlement was a result of the success of Jamestown. New settlers learned from the way Jamestown was settled. They learned how to deal with Native Americans and what type of relationship to keep with them. Also, dealing with conditions of the New World was something upcoming settlers had to realize. Fertile land for specific crops was something Europeans wanted and looked for when they settled in the New World. Much was learned from the Jamestown settlement. In Jamestown, the relationship with the natives grew worse as more land was settled into on . In other colonies such as the Massachusetts Bay colony, relationships worsened. One reason was the diseases the Europeans were bringing that wiped out much of the Native American population in the area. Also, the settlers were hungry for land. The relationship with the Natives was extremely important when talking about further settlements. At first, the settlers had good relations with the natives.
