Should Alabama Have 2 Should Alabama Have a State Education Lottery? Part I: Thesis In Tennessee, how are all of those students able to attend college without getting financial aide? In this paper, I intend to show you with examples and what you all want to know, the answer. The state of Alabama should have a state education lottery because right now, we are funding the states of Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee’s students’ higher education. Think about how many people daily go to other states to purchase lottery tickets in hopes of winning. Most don’t think about the fact that they are funding other states’ students’ education. Wouldn’t it be great to keep those funds in our own state for education? Even though the state lottery could cause some gambling addiction for Alabama residents, Alabama should have an education lottery because it will benefit the students in the state who deserve to go to college, but don’t have the funds and it keeps money in our state for local students. First, Alabama should have a state education lottery because school has become one of the highest expenses for parents as their children get older. Did you know, in schools now such as elementary, middle school, and high school, parents are required to purchase and/or supply not only their children’s supplies but also supplies for the teachers? Having a state education lottery would help those school districts by giving them additional money so the district can purchase supplies for the teachers so the parents won’t be held responsible for those supplies. As we all know, college expenses go up yearly. With the knowledge of that, we also know that supplies go up every year. One of the highest expenses for college students other than the tuition is books. Books have become very expensive for college and the state education lottery would aide with this by providing college students with book vouchers, so books are no longer a completely out of pocket expense. What would be better than that? Book vouchers, aide for school districts for supplies, and college tuition taken care of with little or no out of pocket expense.

Should Alabama Have 3 Additionally, having a state education lottery in Alabama would keep the money in our state to help fund higher education. Many people in Huntsville, Alabama including myself travel to Tennessee on a weekly basis to purchase lottery tickets. Although many people are not aware of what they are doing, I know exactly what I am doing. When we make those weekly trips to Tennessee, we are helping to fund education for their students because their lottery is a state education lottery. We are a part of the reason why they have so many students attending college at little or no cost. I say instead of making that trip every week and spending our money on their educations, we should keep our money
