Roy Lan #10 KTH 9/25/07 Types of Bills There is an old saying that is: the only two things that should never be watched are sausages and laws One scholar compared law making to an obstacle course Private bills are bills passed for individual people or places and public bills are applied to the whole nation. Joint laws if signed by the president are automatically passed for a law. From Bill to law Special-interest groups are a group of people that want to influence the American government by coming up with new laws. Committee Action The chair person in the committee is the 1 st or main person that decides which bills get dismissed right away and which bills get to be approved and talked about. Committees have life-or-death power over bills. The powers of the committee: pass the bill without changes, mark a bill with changes and suggest that it should be passed, replace present bill with a new option, continue to ignore the bill which is called
