LECTURE #1 : Sports Medicine - Deals with: o Prevention o Recognition / Assessment: only within the parameters of your knowledge; physicians only can diagnose o Management: referring to a specialists o Rehabilitation: the actual exercises o **ATC’s and PT’s CANNOT DIAGNOSE*** - Prevention o Flexibility o Proper warm up / cool down o Nutrition / rest o Equipment o Environment o Taping / wrapping o Proper technique / agility / endurance o Balance between muscle groups o Conditioning o Length of practices o Hydration o Educate on risk of participation - Recognition o Should be able to assess without touching by observing and listening o Evaluation on field or in training room: more hands on o HOPS + F: History (listen to what they say) What happened? When did it happen? Why / how did it happen? Any history of injury to that part or bilateral part? Observe Walking off field into the training room ( Ambulation ) o FWB – full weight bearing o PWB – partial weight bearing
