Bencosme 1 Anthony Bencosme Dionne Irving English 1102 23 February 2010 Reasons for Current Failure in Afghan War On October 7 th , 2001, Operation Enduring Freedom was launched in response to the September 11 th terrorist attacks on the United States. The invasion of Afghanistan, by American troops, was not approved by the United Nations Security Council. The goal of the invasion was to rid the use of Afghanistan as a base of operations for Al Qaeda and Taliban regimes. The invasion was successful in ridding the area of insurgents, and soon after, allowed for Afghanistan to attempt to create some form of a stable government. In 2003, the Taliban launched a renewed “jihad” or holy war against the coalition forces. The current condition of the Afghan war must be considered a failure because the Taliban insurgents have regained control of the government, more insurgent attacks are occurring, there is a record high amount of illegal drug productions, and the number of both civilian and American casualties are climbing. All of which has also led to the loss of public support by the Afghan people and ambiguous goals and objectives. In 2003, the Taliban launched a renewed jihad, or holy war, against the coalition forces. The current condition of Afghanistan can be attributable to recent resurgent of Taliban regime, and political influence by the Taliban has grown in the government. As a result, there is increased production of illegal drugs and less support towards the United States by locals and authoritative figures of Afghanistan. The current administration is lacking goals and objectives to
