Unformatted text preview: his poetry has a deeper meaning. This poem was about his friend overreacting after drinking whiskey at a party that also was at his friend’s house. I think Terrance also considers his audience a lot when both reading and writing poetry. In The Avocado , a story of black history month, Terrance is talking about an incident that happened in 1969, but states that it occurred in 1971 so that he doesn’t offend anyone. The other poems Terrance read include Arbor for Butch, New York Poem, and The Rose Has Teeth. I think Terrance is a very interesting poet and has a great mentality. He stated that he writes with the mentality of “one more block”, and that he is obsessed with time. I noticed he had on two watches, and when asked if time affects his writing, he stated that he always has time on his mind.
