Chemistry Notes 1. The term “ hybridization ” is defined as the mixing together of s and p atomic orbital to form hybridized atomic orbitals. 2. Constitutional isomers are compounds that have the same molecular formula but different connectivity of atoms . 3. In general, electronegativity decreases going down any of the columns in the periodic table. 4. The Pauli Exclusion Principle states that only two electrons can occupy an orbital and they much be of opposite spin. 5. Bond strength is the energy released when a bond is formed or the energy required to break a bond. 6. A Bronsted Base is a proton acceptor. 7. Orbitals that have the same energy are called degenerate orbitals. 8. An alkyl group is the partial that remains when a hydrogen atom is removed from an alkane. 9. When describing a chemical reaction, the term “ thermodynamics of a reaction ” refers to the relative amounts of reactants and products present when a reaction has reached an equilibrium. 10.
