9. Do you think Linux will surpass, in adoption and use, other operating systems for network and Web servers? Why or why not? Linux is a high-performance operating system for network servers and Web services. It was developed by Linus Torvald as free or low-cost open-source software in the 1990s. What started as a simple hobby, Linux quickly became an international phenomenon with millions of users. Because of its low costs, user-friendliness, and availability, I believe Linux will surpass other operating systems for network and web servers. Linux was created as shareware or open-source software that offers companies a low-cost alternative to traditional operating systems. It has become a practical choice for businesses around the world, particularly in China where it has been backed by the Chinese government as a low-cost and reliable alternative to Microsoft’s operating systems (p. 149).
