I have chosen American Express CEO Ken Chenault as my focus for this discussion. One characteristic that I feel makes Ken a strong leader is his passion. As I read the article by (Bianco, 1998), he spoke to Ken’s leadership as early as in college when debating social issues with his peers and how they would always choose Ken to lead negotiations with school administrators because he felt so passionatly about the issues. I feel passion is very important to being a good leader. If you are not passionate about your job, team, the mission, I feel you will not bea ble to lead a team to success. The second characteristic I read about that I feel makes him a great leader is his ability to engage people. In the article Thomas Ryderwas quoted as saying ''Harvey is a brilliant man, but Ken has the hearts and minds of the people at the TRS Company.'' To me this speaks volumes. Many management personnel are very good at engaging people’s emotions or their intellect, but few in my experience have been able to accomplish both. This trait is invaluable to me. People
