LECTURE #2: Record Keeping Common Terms - Spain: Ligament injury - Strain: muscle/tendon injury o Mild – 1 st degree – less than 1/3 injured o Moderate – 2 nd degree – 1/3 – ¾ injured o Severe – 3 rd degree – ¾ - complete tear - Dislocation – complete separation, usually ball and socket joint (stays out) - Subluxation – slips to rim and slides back in - Fractures – disruption in continuity of bone o Complete, Stress o Can be an emergency: deformity, displacement - Contusion – bruise; forceful blow to body part resulting in swelling and ecchomosis (superficial discoloration) - Hematoma – isolated contusion, more localized Record Keeping - Very Important - Everything must be documented - Keep paper work for 7 years in Georgia - Write down dates, times, names, and actions for everything Preparticipation Physical Examination (PPE) - Usually done 6 weeks before season to correct any problems found - Medical history o Family, pre-existing o Establish rapport o 60-75% of problems o Physical exam Vitals
