Keeping record may modify eating , Weighing/measuring food as eaten improve accuracy Dietary History : Interview or questionnaire, Health/medical info, qualitative exchange lists Estimate nutrients by grouping foods into exchange categories similar in carbs, fat, and protein content. mypyramid guidelines: six food groups For a 2200 kcal diet the following numbers of servings per day and recommendations are given • 7 ounces from breads/grains/cereals, at least half whole grain • 3 cups vegetables from dark green, orange, dry beans and peas, starchy and other • 2 cups fruit, from a variety of sources and with juices deemphasized • 3 cups milk, primarily low fat or fat free • 6 ounces meats or beans, mostly low fat or lean • 30 minutes of physical activity MOST days • No more than 265-290 kcal of “extra” solid fats and sugars • 6 teaspoons oil The DRI are levels of nutrient intake that should ensure good nutrition in mostly all healthy U.S. people. The DRI for most nutrients include a margin of safety. Daily intakes < 75% suggest deficiency risk.
