Week 7 Study Guide TQM 1. Total Quality Management (TQM) has been around a long time, but it has not really taken hold in the United States. On the other hand, Six Sigma is comparatively young and is utilized by many companies in the U.S. Question: Why is there a greater acceptance and utilization of Six Sigma than TQM? When TQM can do everything Six Sigma can do and even more? TQM is a business management philosophy. Its implementation requires a cultural change within the company. Decision-making is pushed to the lowest possible level to provide quicker feedback, thus improving the responsiveness of the organization. Middle-level managers focus more on being leaders and less on being managers.
