cant startup or shutdown 451321 Dec 27, 2006 1:18 AM Hi, i typed the comment SQL> SHUTDOWN; When I did the shutdown it did nothing. I waited for 1 hour and still nothing, so I cancelled the request: I connected as SYS and tried to startup it says SQL> startup ORA-01081: cannot start already-running ORACLE - shut it down first then i typed SQL> shutdown immediate; ORA-24324: service handle not initialized ORA-24323: value not allowed ORA-01090: shutdown in progress - connection is not permitted then tried : SQL> shutdown abort; ORA-01031: insufficient privileges what must i do now?? 7393 Views Tags: Average User Rating: No ratings (0 ratings) Average User Rating No ratings (0 ratings) 1. The Human Fly Dec 27, 2006 1:25 AM ( in response to 451321 ) The problem is that you tried to shutdown database with normal option where oracle waits all the connections to finish their work, disconnect all the connections. that is the reason you had to wait and wait.
