Midterm study guide for The Global City Q: What is the format of the test? A: There will be three sections: multiple choice/fill in the blank is 20% of the grade, 3 short- answer questions (paragraph answers) 30% of your grade, and a short essay is 50% of your grade. The test can reasonably be done in 50 minutes if you know your stuff ahead of time. Q: How can I do well on a short answer or short essay? A: Know your stuff. It’s very easy to spot a fluff answer here. What we want is a clear answer to the question, which should read like a thesis statement, and reference to the articles/films from class for support. TAs will be sharing the grading, so it’s better to refer to readings and lecture films, rather than anything from section – though if a film from section really fits, it will be acceptable to include it in your discussion. Q: What should I study? A: Glad you asked. You should be able to summarize the main point of each reading in 2-3 sentences. If you can do that, and you can answer these questions, you will be well prepared for
