Students are responsible for any changes announced in class. Course Goals/Objectives: This course introduces students to the biological, social, cognitive, and psychological development of the child from conception to adolescence. Students will cover these topics as a class by discussing and writing about concepts and ideas presented in the textbook and in lectures. Learning Outcomes : 1. Students who complete this course will demonstrate knowledge and an understanding of course subject matter including: a. important theories and research methodologies used to study human development b. ethical matters that need to be considered when studying children c. biological, social, cognitive, and societal/cross-cultural aspects of development (e.g., computer technology) d. developmental changes that occur across some of the life-span (i.e., from conception to adolescence) e. applied and policy implications of current research in human development. 2. Students who complete this course will be given the opportunity to improve some of their writing and critical thinking skills. 3. Students who complete this course will analyze and graph research data. Means of Outcome Assessment Instructor evaluation will include exams and assignments addressing biological, social, cognitive, and psychological development of children; research data; and theories.
