Problem 11: The beam shown in Figure 1 is
in equilibrium under
the loads shown when a knife edge fulcrum is placed at Point B.
Calculate (a) the vertical force at C and (b) the reaction force at B.
Problem 12: Referring to the above problem, an additional
downward force of 76 lbf is applied at Point A. The value of Fcy
remains unchanged. Calculate the position (distance from Point A)
to which the knife edge fulcrum must be moved to establish
equilibrium.
Problem 13: For the truss shown in Figure 2, loaded as
shown, calculate the horizontal and vertical reaction forces at
the supports. Hint: You will need three equations, because
there are three unknowns. One of these involves calculating
moments.
Problem 14: When the truss shown in Figure 2 is assembled,
the foreman measures the angle at Point A and discovers that
it is 47.16
