Clear, red, green, and blue transparent plastic (report folders work nicely) 2. clear tape 3. 12 large Styrofoam cups 4. Potting soil 5. green bean seeds 6. water 7. a shallow box that is no deeper than the Styrofoam cup 8. unobstructed natural light source 9. metric ruler 9) a) Method 1. Prepare at the beginning of Week 1: 2. Cut three circles the size of the rim of a Styrofoam cup from each of the clear, red, green, and blue transparent plastic. 3. Poke three small holes, using only the tip of a pen or pencil, in the bottom of each of 12 Styrofoam cups. 4. Loosely fill half of each Styrofoam cup with potting soil. 5. Gently insert your finger into the soil at the center of each cup to the second crease of your finger but do not touch the bottom of the cup. 6. Place one bean seed in each hole and loosely cover the seed with more potting soil. 7. Add 2 tablespoons (29.6 mL) of water to each cup. 8. Place a circle of either clear or colored transparent plastic on top of each cup and tape down on two sides. There should be three cups with a clear plastic top, three cups with a red plastic top, three cups with a green plastic top, and three cups with a blue plastic top. 9. Randomly assort the 12 cups into the box and place where there is unobstructed light. 10. Note the date of planting. 11. Add 2 tablespoons (29.6 mL) of water to each cup every three days. 10) 11) 12) 13) 14)
