PRE CIVIL WAR SOCIETY 2 Pre Civil War Society In the years prior to the Civil War several big changes occurred which advanced the way that American citizens lived their day to day lives and would grow into some of the greatest ideas for century’s to come. Different inventions made life easier and more exciting, advances in arts and media made life more enjoyable, and advances in medicine would allow life to be more pleasant and safe. The biggest inventions came in industries; progressions in planting, reaping, storing, and preparing products for use all advanced the farming industry a great deal. One of the biggest inventions of this era was the penny press; the penny pressed allowed for mass circulation of news papers for cheap, one cent. This was a great improvement over the previous six cents, once a week, news papers.
