What do you think is the market positioning of the car you drive? Assuming cost and features remained the same, how would you reposition your car in Mexico? In China? In Germany? I drive a 2003 Dodge Dakota; Quad Cab, 4x4. The market positioning on my car is not very good. Dodge’s mid size truck line has never been there big seller and thus they do not market them like the larger RAM series trucks. Over the past 20 years Ford and Chevrolet have dominated the truck market with the F series and Silverado series respectfully. Dodge best positioning for the Dakota series is that they are the only v8 truck in their size group, which means they have the best towing ability and it offers a mix of style with great comfort and function ability. Dodges tag line for the Dakota is, “The Dodge Dakota offers the optimal combination of bold styling, real pickup truck capability and superior ride comfort.” In Mexico the market position of the Dodge Dakota would be close to the same as in the US. Ford and Chevrolet dominate the truck market in Mexico and the midsize truck is not seen to be as useful as a full sized truck in working situations; which is what most trucks would be used for in Mexico.
